18 months - 2 years
Our goal in the 18month-2year old classroom to provide a stimulating environment that fosters curiosity and independence and instills a deep of love of learning that will last a life time. Some of the things we learn about are: the weather, animals, bugs, and nature. We help them explore the world through music, stories, dramatic play, sensory play, learning activities, physical movement and so much more. We recognize that helping a child develop social and emotional skills is as important as helping them develop their cognitive skills. In this, we model ways for them to resolve conflict, identify emotions, and express emotion. They learn awareness of others children’s feelings and start to develop warm bonds with other children.
3 years
Three year olds love to explore their world, solve problems, and express themselves creatively. At High Altitude Kids we foster a learning environment that encourages children to work independently and to choose activities that are interesting to them. We offer a variety of opportunities each day that encourage them to use their creativity to explore how the world around them works. There is a powerful connection between music and stories and early childhood literacy. Through stories, singing, and music we create an environment that helps our students develop their language and literacy skills. Three years olds continue to develop awareness of other children’s feelings and can be quite sensitive to other children’s emotional needs. Our teachers continue to model ways to resolve conflict and to encourage three year olds to try to resolve difference with peers on their own. Help in understand emotions and positive ways to express themselves is also something highlighted in our three year old class.
4 years
Four year olds will continue to explore and learn about the world they live in. Our preschool teachers focus on preparing children for the Kindergarten classroom and for a lifetime of education. This program emphasizes reading readiness, conceptual math development, learning about communities, science discovery, social skills growth and keeping kids moving. Students get plenty of opportunity to jump and run as an on-going endeavor of High Altitude Kids to develop healthy activity and life-long love of staying active. Our program not only has a heavy emphasis physical activity, but also in art and music. During the school year, our four year old classes enjoy a variety of fun field trips.
